Winter Small Batch
If you haven’t tried Sebago small batch beers this winter season, then you’re in for a real treat! Our brewers have been producing pale ales, sours, and even two kinds of Nitro English-Style mild brews, and they’re all available now!
Sebago brewer and U.S. Army veteran Anthony Gaynes took the lead on Freedom Fluid, an American Pale Ale that’s clean and easy drinking! It was brewed with Yakima Chief Hops’ Veterans Blend 2022 — the 5th annual Veterans Blend is comprised of five different Pacific Northwest-grown varieties: HBC 586, Ekuanot, Idaho 7, Chinook, and Triumph brand hops.
Yakima Chief Hops is donating up to $3 per pound sold to HunterSeven Foundation, an organization that specializes in medical research and education specifically on the post-9/11 veteran cohort.
Turkey’s Pick is a highly hopped pale ale with New Zealand hops that give it an aroma of dank citrus, white grape, and melon. Turkey’s Pick shares its name with the special blend of hops provided by New Zealand’s Hop Revolution. Turkey’s Pick is a powerhouse “bespoke blend” of the three best-of-show lots per harvest that were hand-selected at their Tapawera headquarters by a cadre of their most astute brewers.
FUN FACT: Hop Revolution’s Dr. Susan Wheeler (General Manager of Science & Innovation) has a habit of calling her brewery clients “turkeys,” so her lab and sensory space was dubbed “The Turkey’s Nest.” Every harvest, Hop Revolution invites their top NZ brewery clients to select the three of the “best of the best” lots for a unique blend that’s different every year.
On the fruited barrel ferment front, Fruit Salad is a sour ale that was fermented in pinot noir barrels for more than a year and aged with Brettanomyces with sweet and sour cherries, raspberries, and blueberries. The results are a pleasantly wicked tart beer with fruit and wine notes. Volume is extremely limited, so try it soon!
Racking My Brain is a raspberry sour, the product of meticulous fermentation, blending, and aging. Saddleback wort was fermented with three strains of Brettanomyces (aka “Brett”) in sauvignon blanc barrels. After almost of year in the barrels, our brewers added fresh raspberries from Goss Berry Farm in Mechanic Falls, Maine — and then the aging continued. Each gallon of beer has more than one pound of fruit in it resulting in a dry, tart, and refreshing fruit beer.
It Takes a Village is a nitro version of the classic English dark mild ale. Dark milds are characterized by low gravity and ease of drinking, which is further enhanced by the nitro’s smooth mouthfeel. British dark malts give a gentle roasted note, while restrained hopping provides a pleasing bitterness.
Ripple Ruby is another version of a nitro classic English dark mild ale. With notes of toast, malt, and caramel, t’s easy to drink while still having body and flavor to keep it interesting.
All of these small batch beers (and many others) are available at the Tasting Room and select brewpubs. Check out our website to see what’s pouring at each location!
