Royal Tar

In 1836, the steamship Royal Tar caught fire and sank in Penobscot Bay, Maine. This bizarre maritime tragedy left behind a doomed circus menagerie and a still undiscovered safe full of gold and silver. Royal Tar Imperial Stout is every bit as dark and mysterious as the final resting place of its namesake.

A portion of this batch was aged in rye whisky barrels for 10 months to add depth to the big, rich, & complex malt character. This beer is best enjoyed by the fire while reading Maine’s classic, The Circus Ship, by Chris Van Dusen.
