Paste Mag names our Barleywine #3 (out of 62)

It’s been a good year for Sebago Barleywine! In a recent blind tasting, our friends at Paste Magazine ranked Sebago Brewing’s 2017 Barleywine as the third best out of 62 other barleywines across the country.

 

Jim Vorel, Paste writer and craft beer aficionado said: “In barrel-aged beer, it’s not about being the biggest, or the boldest, or the most adventurous—it’s about being the most complete, and that’s what this bourbon barrel-aged barleywine from Maine’s Sebago Brewing Co. is all about.”

 

The barleywine-style beers were judged completely blind by “how enjoyable they were as individual experiences” and given scores of 1-100, which were then averaged. Tasters included professional beer writers, brewery owners, brewmasters and beer reps. “Batch 1,000” by Fremont Brewing Co. in Seattle, WA and “III” by Brew Gentlemen in Braddock, PA were named #1 and #2, respectively.

 

“Our Barleywine is quite a different offering in our portfolio of beers and can slip under the radar, so it’s great to get this kind of recognition,” said Kai Adams, Sebago VP and Co-founder. “It’s a really fun beer to make – and to sip slowly on a cold winter day.”

 

Another feature of Sebago Barleywine is its packaging, which is unique to the industry. One 12-ounce can is stacked on top of the other as a two-pack— one can to drink and another to share (or save for later).
